DAY 4: GETTING ACQUAINTED WITH LACOR HOSPITAL

Social Promise Youth is officially staying in Gulu at Lacor Hospital!

Today we were introduced to the area and all the people and workers. In the morning, a loud alarm went off and woke us up at all the guest house. After breakfast, we met a resident artist named Franco. Franco voluntarily gave us a walking tour around the outside of Lacor. Though it was hot, he recommended the best cold drink stores. On the walk around, we saw many goats, baby ducklings, and children walking home from school. After the 2-mile walk in the burning sun, our group was exhausted, to say the least.

A short rest and lunch got us back on track for a tour of Lacor Hospital’s interior. Sister Rose, a nurse there, took us around. We were permitted to see almost all the different wards and heard shocking stories about the hospital’s past, whether that be the Ebola outbreak or war. A highlight of this trip was seeing the neonatal sector and ambulance that Social Promise helped fund.

We spent the remainder of the evening relaxing and settling in. We are excited to visit St. Jude Children’s Home in the morning.
