THE TOP TEN THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT OUR TRIP TO UGANDA
10. A Large Group: This year, we are traveling with 15 people: nine girls from Marymount School, their mothers, and three members of Social Promise.
9. Equator Experience: Uganda is one of the few countries where you can stand on the equator. We'll visit the equator line to experience the unique phenomena and learn about its significance.
8. Backpacks for St. Jude Primary School: We're bringing backpacks filled with school supplies that the girls assembled for the children at St. Jude Primary School.
7. Lab Visit: We'll tour the building site of the local lab technical school- the first of its kind in the area. This visit will give us insight into the local medical research environment.
6. Researching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): We'll delve into the United Nations' SDGs, focusing on how Uganda works to achieve these global goals. This research will help us understand the country's development priorities and challenges.
5. Immersing in Acholi Culture: Our trip will include cultural immersion activities to learn about the Acholi people, their traditions, music, dance, and daily life. This experience will enrich our understanding and appreciation of Ugandan culture.
4. St. Jude Children's Home: The girls will interact with the residents at St. Jude Children's Home. They will shadow the mothers and help them care for the children in their family homes.
3. Lacor Hospital: The girls will have the opportunity to tour Lacor Hospital and see first-hand the amazing work done there.
2. Safari: We will visit Murchinson National Park, go on safari to see the local wildlife, and take a boat tour of the Nile River.
1. Raising Money for Malaria Treatment: Malaria is a significant health issue in Uganda. The girls decided to fundraise to support malaria treatment initiatives, providing much-needed resources to combat this disease. They have already raised over $5,000!
