At Social Promise,
We have chosen to help the vulnerable people of northern Uganda because we met them, they asked for our help, and we knew we could respond. Social Promise was approved by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2011, and began operations in 2012.

Your empathy and generosity matter deeply and we will always work to earn your trust.
You deserve to know how your donation is used.
MONETARY DONATIONS ARE YOUR MOST EFFECTIVE MEANS OF HELPING >>
We partner only with well established, efficiently functioning charities that provide health or educational resources to their own local, impoverished communities in Uganda. By working with Ugandans who are already solving problems in their own communities with their own methods, your donations are making permanent contributions towards alleviating poverty and suffering in the world. We did not go into Uganda and establish our own programs, so there will never come a time when we will leave and cause disruption. Instead, we support ongoing programs and people who are already doing successful work.
HOW YOU SUPPORT OUR PARTNER NONPROFITS IN UGANDA >>
In keeping with our philosophy of supporting Ugandan nonprofits without causing greater dependency, we ensure that your donations to their operations do not create additional burdens for our partners. We do not require our partners to create a new program to apply for funding, but instead we help support the projects they are already doing well with limited funding. If they are making progress in such extreme poverty, just imagine the success they will have with your support.
HOW YOUR DONATIONS ARE HELPING VULNERABLE PEOPLE IN UGANDA >>
Our partners work closely with us to keep us updated about the programs you have supported. We maintain direct email contact with the Directors of our Ugandan partners and receive copies of annual audits by external reviewers. In addition, someone from Social Promise independently travels to Uganda each year to visit our partner organizations, meet with the directors of these organizations, and see their programs in person.
HOW WE PICK OUR PARTNERS >>
We pick our partners because we find that they are already doing extraordinary work addressing problems in access to healthcare and education in their communities. We have found that the best way to ensure that they continue to do their essential and effective work is to provide them with supportive funds until the day they are able to find that support through their own economy. By supporting access to healthcare and education, we will hasten the arrival of this day.
WHY SOCIAL PROMISE IS A GOOD PARTNER FOR YOU >>
We are small and we can easily track our dollars. We literally know exactly what your donations fund. We are very picky about our partners. We know them very well. And have known them for almost 20 years. We are wary of the history of colonialism in sub-Saharan Africa and work carefully to avoid propagating it. Our partners are amazing establishments. We are volunteer only. We do this work because of our passion for helping the people we know in Gulu. Our Board of Directors is full of intellectual, hard-working people. We study practices in health care, philanthropy, and poverty eradication. We make our decisions carefully. We support projects that work. We care deeply that each dollar donated to help in Gulu does the most it possibly can. We want your donors dollars to go as far as possible both out of respect for you, our donors, and out of compassion for the desperation of the people we are helping.
